Eight seconds. That’s the average time it took Medical Guardian’s monitoring agents to answer our test calls. We’ve tested over 15 brands and nobody else has come close to that number. When your parent presses that help button, those seconds matter.
Our team spent several months with all five Medical Guardian systems. David used the MGMini as his daily carry, Sarah wore the MGMini Lite bracelet, and we rotated through the home systems and the MGMove smartwatch. The monitoring quality was consistently excellent — agents were calm, professional, and knew exactly what they were doing on every call.
The honest downside: Medical Guardian costs more than most alternatives. Their starting price is $31.95 compared to Bay Alarm Medical’s $24.95, and fall detection is an extra $10 on every plan. We think the speed is worth the premium for some families, but not all. Here’s everything we found so you can make your own call.

Our Testing Experience
MGHome Landline
The most affordable system at $31.95/month. A simple, reliable base unit with landline connection and a 1,300-foot pendant range. Setup took under 10 minutes. During power outage testing, the 32-hour backup battery kept the system fully operational.
MGHome Cellular
Functionally identical to the landline version but runs on AT&T’s cellular network. Range extends to 1,400 feet — the widest in-home coverage we’ve tested from any company. The built-in speakerphone was audible from multiple rooms away.
MGMini
Medical Guardian’s most affordable mobile system. We wore the small pendant for five days on a single charge. GPS tracking was precise during outdoor test calls. Caregiver tracking through the MyGuardian app is included at no extra cost with the MGMini, unlike all other Medical Guardian systems where it costs $2.99/month.
Fall detection performance was a notable weakness: in our 10 simulated fall tests, the MGMini detected only 1. Users who prioritize fall detection should look at the MGMini Lite instead.
MGMini Lite
The bracelet-style companion to the MGMini. The MGMini Lite weighs just 0.004 pounds and runs on 4G LTE. Battery life is 36 hours. In fall detection tests, it detected 8 of 10 simulated falls — one of the best results we’ve seen across all devices.
The tradeoff: it costs $46.95/month ($56.95 with fall detection), making it one of the more expensive options in the medical alert market.
MGMove Smartwatch
Medical Guardian’s only watch-style system. In addition to emergency response, it supports step counting, medication reminders, weather updates, and voice texting (via the Support Circle app, $5/month). Battery life is approximately one day — the shortest of any Medical Guardian device. Starting cost is $42.95/month with a $199.95 equipment fee.
MyGuardian App
Available on iOS, Android, and desktop, the MyGuardian app allows caregivers to:
- Track live device location
- Monitor battery level and signal strength
- Receive notifications when emergency calls are placed
- Set medication reminders
- View step count data (select devices)
In testing, the app interface was intuitive and the real-time location tracking was accurate. Caregiver tracking is free with the MGMini; all other systems charge $2.99/month extra for this feature.
Monitoring Quality
Medical Guardian’s monitoring centers hold TMA Five Diamond, ESA Security, FM Approved, and UL Listed certifications. In every test call we placed, agents responded professionally and verified our location data accurately. The 8-second average response time across all systems is a genuine differentiator.

Final Verdict
Medical Guardian earns a strong rating for delivering the most consistently fast emergency response we’ve measured. For users and families who want maximum confidence in monitoring quality and don’t mind paying a premium, it’s an excellent choice.
The main hesitation is cost. Fall detection costing extra on every plan is a notable gap, and monthly rates run meaningfully higher than competitors. Users prioritizing value should compare carefully against Bay Alarm Medical.
